Sciatic Nerve Cuff Model of Peripheral Neuropathic Pain

The mouse nerve cuff model is based on a compression of the sciatic nerve using a polyethylene cuff that is implanted around the main branch of the sciatic nerve. It produces a more consistent pain with less variability than other mouse models of peripheral nerve injury (PNI).  

 Model Specifications

  • Model length - up to 30 days
  • Positive controls: morphine, gabapentin, pregabalin
  • Readouts*: tactile allodynia (Von Frey), cold allodynia
  • Endpoints: histology, biomarker analysis (protein or mRNA levels in sciatic nerve or serum/plasma)
